Emmy Award-winning producer Cameo George, OZY’s director of video, is a native New Yorker and an only child who credits her mother and grandmother for all her good qualities. The best-dressed staffer by a mile, she’s partial to orange and leopard print — but is a dyed-in-the-wool introvert.
Her first job after college, where she was a Japanese major, was as a producer and correspondent in Johannesburg for the South African Broadcasting Corporation. Figuring out how to find stories in each of the nine provinces of South Africa allowed her to roam the country for free. She still idolizes Nelson Mandela. After that, Cameo worked at CNN for 12 years (eight in Atlanta, four in NYC) and NBC News, where she spent three years at 30 Rock.
Cameo has been to five of the seven continents and desperately wants to go to the last two, Australia and Antarctica. And although she’s traveled to six Asian countries, she’s never been to Japan, despite the college major. She loves documentaries, real estate, architecture and interior design. And shoes. She took speed-reading courses for five years as a child but is stuck on page 7 of Ron Chernow’s 832-page biography of Alexander Hamilton. Also — she swears this is true — Cameo ate peanut butter sandwiches (no jelly) every single school day of every year from first to fourth grade, but she has never tasted pizza.
